marching bands...

what they must realise is that it is the combination of good playing and good marching that makes for the highest effectiveness in a parade program, and makes a band a real band. the parade must appeal both to the artistic eye and the artistic ear. not only should the marching band play well but is should also play the highest quality of music which is appropriate to the occasion. to be sure, the band must play marches while marching, but they should be marches of musical merit, played artistically rather than mechanically or for the sake of volume and rhythm alone....(hindsley, 1940!)

band....

a band should never march better on the field than it plays on the stage.....

do we want a band to look like a 30k on the field and sounds like 30c on the stage or a band to sound like 30k on stage but looks like 30c on the field?

Map to NCO Camp POP @ CCAB

34th NCO CAMP PASSING OUT PARADE

Band

The 34th NCO Band Camp Passing Out Parade will be held this Friday 7 Nov 2008 at 6.30pm at CCA Branch. This is an annual national band camp organised by MOE whereby each school sends one Drum Major and one Band Major to represent the band. It is a non-residential 5D camp at CCAB premises (the place where we had our Masterclass with the SAF Band) and it will culminate in a Passing Out Parade whereby all the camp participants will 'graduate' from the camp and receive the NCO badge.

Please go to the Passing Out Parade (POP) this Friday to support our Drum Major, Ming Wei and Band Major, Jit Xin.

The map to CCAB will be uploaded in the next post.

Notice

Further to the Majors' blog today, please take note of the following:

Askhary and Ying Zheng will be the designated DMNs who will fall the band in in the absence of the Majors (this is not something new, so please cooperate with them)

As for the Sec 3s who need to 'rush' for the combined with Mr Neo at 1.15pm, please understand that the combined session is really crucial for you should know the state of the band and the concert is only 1 mth away.

As for the pencils, it must be found on every stand, the librarians and majors will do a random check every now and then. It is a good practice which all good bands do, so once again, this is not something new. Users of that particular stand found w/out a pencil will mean that the user(s) is/are to run round the assembly plaza 5 times, repeated offenders will be severely dealt with.

For your information and strict compliance, please.

Sat's(01/11/08) announcement

Hi people, this was the announcement that was made yesterday(01/11/08).

1) Azkhairy/Ying Zheng will fall the band in on Tuesday(04/11/08) at 10am. Sec 3s who are not in higher MT are to go for band practice at 1.15pm. Hence, please go for a very heavy meal during your break at 11.05am. The sec 3 majors will not be present on that day thus please cooperate with your DMns.

2) Sec 3 higher MT students are excused from band practice from 01/11/08 to 05/11/08.

3) Tuesday's band practice attire would be black white tee.

4) Please do not forget to bring a pencil for EVERY band practice as you will need to write notes on the music scores.

Thank you.
